Watch: Campaigns calling for release of India’s Father Stan Swamy continue

This Rome Reports video above features efforts — including those made by the Jesuits — to free Indian Father Stan Swamy from prison.

Father Swamy, an advocate for the rights of indigenous peoples, has been accused of assisting militant Maoist groups which he denies. The 83-year-old was arrested by India’s National Investigation Agency on Oct. 8, 2020.

The video includes an interview with Father Xavier Jeyarj, SJ, secretary for Social Justice and Ecology.

“Every day there are protests, campaigns, rallies, and students and young people—everybody —kind of raising their voices all over the country, not only in the part where he was living,” says Father Jeyarj.
