A retail store in the Philippine capital launched a promotional campaign, accepting one piece of onion in exchange for a product

A retail store in the Philippine capital launched a promotional campaign on Feb. 4, 2023, by accepting one piece of onion in exchange for a product.

All collected onions were donated by the store to a community pantry. Since the last quarter of 2022, onion prices have soared, reaching as high as 800 pesos (nearly US$15) a kilogram in Manila supermarkets, making them more expensive than chicken or pork. (Photos by Jire Carreon)
