Philippine Supreme Court allows Maria Ressa to travel abroad

Maria Ressa will be traveling to Canada, France, South Korea, and the United States of America

The Philippine Supreme Court on Wednesday announced that it is allowing journalist and Nobel Prize laureate Maria Ressa to travel abroad from March 13 to April 1, 2023.

In a Resolution dated March 6, the Court’s First Division resolved to grant the “Fourth Motion for Permission to Travel Abroad” of Ressa “subject to certain conditions.”

Ressa was ordered to observe the “sub judice rule” and to refrain from making any comment on or discussing in public her case and other related matters.

She is also required to travel on the cash bond of 100,000 pesos she previously posted pursuant to an earlier resolution of the Court.

The Nobel Prize winner is also required to transmit to the court an advice in writing of her return to the country within five days from her arrival.

Ressa will be traveling to Canada, France, South Korea, and the United States of America.
