Notre Dame University, the only Catholic university in Bangladesh that was established by the Congregation of the Holy Cross in 2023, marked its tenth year this month.
“It is a very significant anniversary for us,” said Father Adam Subash Pereira, an official of the Catholic institution. He said that with the university, the congregation “succeeded” in providing a “different education compared to other universities.”
“In addition to academic courses, we also provide university students with an important education in values,”the priest was quoted by AsiaNews. He said they have plans to build additional structures to accommodate 7,000 students.
“Notre Dame University has provided me with professional skills that have allowed me to obtain a successful career,” said Catherine Gomes, 26, Deputy Judge at the Joypurhat District Court. She said she also “gained the awareness necessary to work in today’s global community.”
Gomez completed her law studies in the university in 2018. She said the Catholic institution is “a very disciplined university.”
“There’s a nice environment, the professors are very sincere with the students,” she said.
Christians in Bangladesh comprise 0.3 percent of the population, but they are present in educational services and manage various academic institutions.
