Survivors of violence in India’s Manipur state speaks of violence, loss of lives

In a series of tragic incidents, clashes between Meitei and Kuki communities have left a trail of destruction and sorrow

The northeastern Indian state of Manipur has been engulfed in violence, resulting in the loss of lives and widespread fear among residents.

In a series of tragic incidents, clashes between Meitei and Kuki communities have left a trail of destruction and sorrow, said a report on Matters India.

One heart-wrenching incident took place on May 2 when T. Khupminthang, along with his son and three others, sought shelter in the house of a Meitei employer in Imphal. Tragically, two of them fell victim to a violent mob, losing their lives. The attackers targeted them based on their Kuki tribal background.

On May 3, as Khupminthang and his companions attempted to seek refuge at an army camp, they were surrounded by a mob armed with sticks and iron rods. Despite their efforts to escape, the five were overwhelmed and captured.

Three of the captives were taken away by the mob, subjected to torture, and left for dead on a street in Imphal.

Videos of the attack were shared online by the perpetrators.
