Archbishop Peter B. Wells delivered a personal letter from Pope Francis to the Venerable Somdej Phra Mahathirachan. The pontiff expressed his gratitude for the ongoing dialogue between Buddhists and Catholics aimed at promoting peace and fraternity.
The Abbot shared his work in Europe and the United States, including plans for a new Buddhist temple in Paris.
The religious leaders discussed the upcoming meeting between Catholics and Buddhists scheduled for November 13-17 in Bangkok.
The Royal Temple and the Dicastery for Interreligious Dialogue will co-host the 7th Colloquium between Buddhists and Catholics, with a focus on “Karuna (compassion) and Agape (charity) in Dialogue for Healing a Wounded World and the Earth.”
Following their meeting, the delegation was given a tour of the extraordinary temple compound, which included a museum showcasing the history of the enduring friendship between Catholics and Buddhists.
Wat Pho stands as a symbol of the deep-rooted relationship between Catholics and Buddhists.
