The Salesians of Don Bosco convened representatives from eight Indigenous communities for the third installment of the “Voices” program in Kep province, Cambodia, on January 27 and 28.
The event commenced with an inauguration at the symbolic Becchi house, including introductory words from Fr. Albeiro Rodas, rector of Don Bosco Technical School Kep, and a message from Fr. Harris Pakkam, director of the Salesian News Agency.
The opening program concluded with a traditional blessing by elders from the eight minority groups, followed by the sharing of rice wine.
After individual discussions within each indigenous group, a collective assembly in the Sala Rong followed, where participants shared their identity, language, traditions, spirituality, territory, and challenges.
Fr. Gildasio Mendes, the General Councilor for Social Communication of the Salesians, conveyed an online greeting, sparking enthusiasm among indigenous participants. The first day concluded with a cultural night showcasing traditional music and dances from diverse indigenous groups.”
On the second day, participants passionately shared their concerns and hopes for the future. A visit to the Bokor National Park Mountain culminated in a prayer session in a century-old Catholic Church, followed by a commitment ceremony led by Fr. Rodas and Fr. Pakkam.
The program’s conclusion occurred around a campfire on the second evening, where representatives from each indigenous group expressed gratitude for the awareness created by “Voices Cambodia.” – with reports from Salesian News Agency.
