Holy See releases logos and mottos for Pope Francis’ visit in Asia

The Vatican has unveiled the official logos and mottos for Pope Francis’ upcoming Apostolic Journey to Asia, promising a journey of faith, unity, and hope.

The Pope will visit Indonesia, Papua New Guinea, Timor Leste, and Singapore from September 2 to 13, marking his longest-ever overseas mission, according to Vatican Media.

The journey begins in Jakarta, Indonesia, on September 3, where the Pope will stay until September 6. The logo depicts Pope Francis with his hand raised in blessing before a golden “Garuda,” Indonesia’s sacred eagle, designed in the traditional “batik” style.

A map of Indonesia is inlaid within the emblem, reflecting the nation’s rich diversity of ethnicities, languages, and beliefs. The motto for this leg is “Faith – Fraternity – Compassion,” embodying the spirit of understanding and community.

Pope Francis will then head to Papua New Guinea, remaining there until September 9. The visit’s logo features a cross painted in colors reminiscent of the country’s stunning sunrises and sunsets.

A Bird of Paradise, representing Papua New Guinea, adorns the cross, while the motto, “Pray,” is inspired by the disciples’ plea to Jesus: “Lord, teach us to pray” (Luke 11:1).

From September 9 to 11, the Pope will be in Timor Leste, where his logo shows the Pope raising his hand in blessing with a globe and a map of the country behind him.

The motto, “May Your Faith Be Your Culture,” calls on the Timorese people to integrate their faith with their cultural traditions, emphasizing the value of inculturation.

The journey concludes in Singapore, where Pope Francis will remain from September 11 to 13. The logo portrays a stylized cross, evoking the guiding star of the Magi, the Eucharist, and the five stars of Singapore’s national flag.

The motto, “Unity—Hope,” symbolizes harmony among Christians and offers hope to those facing challenges in the region.

The logos and mottos together capture the profound significance of this Apostolic Journey, offering a message of solidarity and compassion to the diverse communities that Pope Francis will visit.

The journey seeks to inspire and uplift Christians across the region while fostering unity among believers and the wider society.
