Thai Catholic girl gains recognition for creative evangelization through social media

A 10-year-old Thai girl, Gianna Grace, has quickly gained recognition for her innovative approach to engaging with the Catholic community, using social media to share lively and inspiring content.

Gianna’s video series, “Grace’s Chit Chat,” is hosted on the Thai Catholic Hub, a new social media platform endorsed by the Roman Catholic Mission of Bangkok

Her content, described as “full of joy, knowledge, and inspiration,” has drawn praise from various members of the community.

“With Grace’s Chit Chat, she connects with people of all ages in our Catholic community,” said George Varakorn Techamontrikul, Gianna’s father, in an interview on the Thai Catholic Hub webpage.

In her series, Gianna interviews prominent figures in the Catholic Church in Thailand. Her first interview was with Bishop Joseph Prathan Sridarunsil, just before his retirement.

Reflecting on the interview, Gianna shared with LiCAS News, “My question to Bishop Prathan is about how a Bishop prepares for his retirement.”

She explained that the idea stemmed from her curiosity about the daily lives of clergy members. “I was wondering what Bishop Prathan feels like when he was about to retire, so I asked my dad if I could interview him.”

Since then, Gianna has continued her interviews, recently speaking with Bishop Paul Trairong Multree of Surat Thani before his consecration.

She asked the newly appointed bishop about the moment he learned of his appointment and the significance of his episcopal motto and crest.

“I feel overwhelmed that the Church is starting to open their hearts and listen to people, including young people,” Gianna said, expressing her excitement about her role in creating conversations within the Church. “This is a good sign. If we all walk together, we could make a huge difference.”

Gianna’s parents, Prim and George, expressed full support of their daughter’s evangelization efforts, though they remain cautious about her use of technology.

Prim recalled how many people at the ordination ceremony recognized and greeted Gianna, a sign of her growing influence within the community.

The Thai Catholic Hub, where “Grace’s Chit Chat” is hosted, was created to respond to Pope Francis’s call for Synodality. It aims to be a platform where Thai Catholics can connect, share information, and deepen their faith. Previously, Gianna Grace also interviewed Cardinal Charles Maung Bo, the president of the Federation of Asian Bishops Conferences, during the federation’s historic 50th Anniversary General Congress in Thailand.

As Gianna Grace continues to grow her platform, her efforts highlight the increasing role of young voices in the Church’s ongoing dialogue about faith and community.
