Vietnam-Holy See working group affirms freedom of Church to carry out mission

Both parties agreed that the Catholic community in Vietnam will continue to be inspired by the Magisterium of the Church

The 10th Meeting of the Vietnam-Holy See Joint Working Group reaffirmed “the freedom of the Church, within the bounds of law, to carry out its mission for the good of the whole of society.”

A report on Vatican News said both parties agreed that the Catholic community in Vietnam will continue to be inspired by the Magisterium of the Church regarding their vocation to be good Catholics and good citizens.

The meeting, which took place in the Vatican on March 31, was co-chaired by Le Thi Thu Hang, deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Vietname and head of the Vietnamese delegation, and Monsignor Mirosław Wachowski, undersecretary for Relations with States of the Vatican and head of the Holy See Delegation.

Both sides also acknowledged the progress relations between Vietnam and the Holy See, including regular contacts and consultations, exchange of high level delegations and frequent pastoral visits by the Vatican’s non-resident papal representative, Archbishop Marek Zalewski.

The meeting took place in “an atmosphere of cordiality, frankness, and mutual respect,” said the Vatican News report.
