Bangladesh bishop urges media workers to be truth bearers

Bishop Gervas Rozario of Rajshahi encouraged journalists and media workers to “fearlessly” unveil the truth in these trying times of misinformation and disinformation.

The prelate made the statement during the celebration of the 57th World Communication Day at Christo Jyoti Pastoral Center in the Diocese of Rajshahi early this week.

“Today, I pray for all news writers and media workers around the world to work fearlessly toward establishing the truth,” said Bishop Rozario.

The prelate applauded the “hard work and commitment” of journalists, who he said are “working for the nation, the society, and the Church to establish truth and justice, even in dangerous situations.”

Titled “Speak with the Heart,” the program during the celebration was organized by the Diocesan Commission for Social Communications and witnessed by some 70 church and media workers.

Father Bablu Corraya, convenor of the Social Communications Commission, said journalists are “the mirror of society.” He said, “It is their moral responsibility to present the truth in any news.”

The priest said media workers must “listen with our hearts,” “reveal the truth and record it with our hearts,” and “publish news for the betterment of human beings.”

Father Bulbul Rebeiro, director of the Christian Communications Centre, said the Church’s social communicators should communicate “heart to heart,” adding, “A loving heart is enough to speak good words.. So, whatever we preach and write, let it be true and full of love.”
