Lions Club Jakarta Askara Buwana has completed the first phase of a six-month service initiative, collecting 800 hand-knitted hats and 50 million Indonesian rupiah, about $3,200, to support vulnerable communities across Indonesia.
The hats were produced through a collective effort by club members who regularly gathered to learn and practice knitting together.
“Many members gathered regularly, often on Sundays, to strengthen both their skills and their spirit of fellowship, transforming simple yarn into meaningful symbols of care and compassion,” Viviyanti Ashali said in an interview with LiCAS.
She said the club is continuing the knitting process to complete an additional 200 hats, with a target of producing 1,000 in total.
“Some of the completed hats have already been distributed to shelter homes in Jakarta, Medan, and several other cities, providing warmth and comfort to those in need,” the group’s activist added.

In addition to in-kind donations, the 50 million rupiah contribution was channeled through the Lions Indonesia Foundation to support the Lions EXT Shelter Program, which focuses on providing safe housing and essential support for vulnerable individuals and families.
The initiative reflects the group’s emphasis on service and collaboration.
Guided by the motto “Serving Together, Excelling to Grow” and the global Lions commitment, “We Serve,” Lions Club Jakarta Askara Buwana continues to highlight how sustained, collective acts of service can support communities in need.
