A wide-reaching evangelization campaign under the “Mobile Mission” of the Diocese of Ubon Ratchathani has already reached about 60 percent of its targeted Catholic communities, bringing pastoral teams directly to villages across the northeastern Thai province as part of its observance of the Jubilee Year.
The Mobile Mission, which began in 2024 and continues through 2025, aims to spiritually renew Catholic communities by deepening faith, strengthening devotion, and promoting cooperation among clergy, religious, and laypeople in revitalizing the Church’s missionary work during the Jubilee Year.
Led by the diocesan pastoral office, the initiative is a collaborative effort involving Bishop Stephen Boonlert Phromsena—who serves as advisor and takes an active role in the mission—together with priests, religious sisters, and lay pastoral workers.
The mission team visits Catholic communities in various villages, categorized into large, medium, and small groups.
During each visit, which lasts two to three days, the team carries out household visits, listens to local concerns, encourages parishioners, and gathers groups at the local church for faith sharing.
Programs are organized for parents, youth, and students, and include the celebration of the Eucharist and small group reflections based on the Basic Ecclesial Communities (BEC) model.
The Lovers of the Holy Cross Sisters of Ubon Ratchathani are also participating in the mission. Mother Yowana Wanida Thavorn, the congregation’s superior general, has assigned two sisters—Sr. Suwannee Phanwilai and Sr. Ngamwong—to work full-time on the project in coordination with the bishop, diocesan clergy, and lay team.
The Mobile Mission will continue until all designated communities in the diocese have been visited.
