Watch: Regional lawmaker escorted out of her house by soldiers in Paungde, Myanmar

Regional lawmaker Pa Pa Han was seen being escorted out of her house in Paungde by soldiers, in footage livestreamed by her husband, on early Feb. 1.

The husband, Ye Lin Naing, was seen pleading with men in military uniform who were standing outside the gate of their home.

Police and army vehicles were deployed in Myanmar’s largest city of Yangon on Monday following a military coup.

The army announced that the State Counsellor and de facto leader Aung San Suu Kyi was detained alongside other elected officials.

In a statement broadcasted on a local military-owned television channel, the army proclaimed a state of emergency to preserve the ‘stability’ of the state in response to alleged fraud during the latest legislative elections in November 2020.

The army’s move came on the day the new parliament was set to convene for the first time following the vote.
