The Catholic faithful in the Diocese of Borongan celebrated its traditional “Padul-ong Festival” even as Typhoon “Pakhar” made landfall

The Catholic faithful in the Diocese of Borongan in the central Philippines celebrated its traditional “Padul-ong Festival” even as Typhoon Jolina (international name “Pakhar”) made landfall in Eastern Samar province on Tuesday, September 7.

The “fluvial procession” where the image of the Blessed Virgin Mary is boarded on an “andas” or “pagoda” was not held and the celebration of the Holy Eucharist was delayed due to the weather.

The image of the Nuestra Señora dela Natividad, patroness of Borongan, was brought to the Borongan cathedral by a convoy of vehicles instead of through the traditional sea voyage.

This year, the Cathedral Parish of Borongan celebrates its 325th parish feast day in honor of the Nuestra Señora de Borongan whose feast day falls on September 8, Feast of the Nativity of the Virgin Mary. (Photos by Alren Beronio)
