The Archdiocese of Bangalore in India led a demonstration to protest the proposed anti-conversion law in the country’s southern Karnataka state on Saturday, December 4.
The archdiocese, together with the United Christian Forum of Karnataka, expressed its opposition to the anti-conversion bill and the survey being conducted on Christian institutions.
The rally was initiated by the Archdiocese of Bangalore in collaboration with other Christian denominations and Catholic dioceses in the state.
Archbishop Peter Machado of Bangalore said the proposed bill “is nothing but a license given to Hindu radical groups to attack Christians, and persecute them.”
The archbishop, who is vocal in his opposition to the bill, said minority Christians will never bow down before the government, nor remain afraid of its scare tactics.
He called on all Christians to unite and fight against injustices in their communities.
Several political and religious leaders joined the protest rally held in front of St. Xavier’s Cathedral in Bangalore.
