Photos: Faithful in Philippines’ Bulacan province ‘arrest’ Jesus

Self-flagellations and crucifixions are some of the popular forms of rituals that Filipino Catholics participate in during the Holy Week

In the province of Bulacan, north of the Philippine capital Manila, the faithful reenact the “arrest” of Jesus during a traditional Holy Thursday observance.

A penitent is hit and tumbles, for real, as he carries a cross around the town of Bulakan to dramatize the passion of Jesus Christ before his crucifixion.
