The Easter Vigil, known as the Paschal Vigil in traditional Christian denominations, marks the initial formal observance of Jesus’ Resurrection.
This service, historically significant for the baptism of new members and the incorporation of adult catechumens into full church membership, occurs during the dark hours spanning from Holy Saturday sunset to Easter Sunday dawn, typically held on Holy Saturday night or at midnight. It represents the premiere event of Easter celebrations.
Esteemed as the liturgical year’s most critical worship service and Mass, the Easter Vigil reintroduces the “Alleluia” exclamation, absent since Lent began, symbolizing the onset of the Easter period.
