Christian denominations in Hong Kong have called on faith institutions and believers to deepen cooperation and witness to unity, as they prepare to mark the 2026 Week of Prayer for Christian Unity.
The appeal came in a joint statement issued by the Diocesan Ecumenical Commission, the Ecumenical Patriarchate Orthodox Metropolitanate of Hong Kong and Southeast Asia, and the Hong Kong Christian Council.
“In today’s Church, facing divisions and diverse challenges, the apostolic call to unity is directed not only to communities but to each individual believer. We are called to live out unity, reflecting Christ’s love and grace, and advancing his Kingdom on earth,” the statement said.
This year’s observance is centered on Ephesians 4:4: “There is one body and one Spirit, just as you were called to the one hope of your calling.” The organizers noted that St. Paul emphasizes the Church’s unity in Christ despite the diversity of its members, pointing to spiritual bonds formed through the Holy Spirit.
A series of ecumenical activities is scheduled across the city, according to a report by Sunday Examiner.
An Ecumenical Prayer Evening will be held on Jan. 24 at Ward Memorial Methodist Church, where Father Chor Yuk-wa has been invited to deliver a message.
On Jan. 22, Christian leaders and co-workers will gather for a Joint Ecumenical Communion Service at Truth Lutheran Church.
The service will be led by the Rev. Wong Ka-fai of the Hong Kong Council of the Church of Christ in China.
Churches are also encouraged to observe Unity Sunday on Jan. 18 by praying together and exchanging pulpits, a practice organizers say reflects a shared commitment to Christian unity in a divided world.
