Street preacher arrested in China’s Yunnan province

The preacher reportedly traveled to Wenshan Zhuang and Miao Autonomous Prefecture for an outreach program with the De’ang ethnic minority group

A street preacher was prevented was arrested in China’s Yunnan province last week for preaching to an ethnic minority group.

The preacher was identified as Chen Wensheng from Hengyang City in Hunan province. A report on China Aid said Chen is known for his passion to share the good news.

The preacher reportedly traveled to Wenshan Zhuang and Miao Autonomous Prefecture in Yunnan province late last month for an outreach program with the De’ang ethnic minority group.



The ethnic group, which reportedly has only about 6,000 people in the western part of Yunnan province, are predominantly Buddhists.

On March 5, Chen shared a message on his social media account, urging people to participate in his ministry.

“The Lord teaches us clearly in the Bible that the gospel needs to be preached to all creation,” he wrote.

“The Chinese official account is that there are only 56 ethnicities in China, yet according to scholars, there are more than 500 ethnic groups, mostly belonging to the ‘unreached people groups’; may God help us win their souls in this new year!” he added.

He then reportedly put out signs with gospel messages on the side of a road and handed masks with Christian messages.

The police later came, accosted Chen and took pictures of his pamphlets before he was taken away.

The China Aid report said Chen was detained six times last year alone.
