Thousands of Filipino Catholics braved the rain and the threat of the coronavirus disease to participate in the "La Naval de Manila” procession

Thousands of Filipino Catholics braved the rain and the threat of the coronavirus disease on Sunday, October 9, 2022, to participate in the religious procession to celebrate the feast of the “Our Lady of La Naval de Manila” on Oct. 9, 2022.

This image of the Blessed Virgin Mary is venerated in the Philippines because devotees believe that she interceded during the Protestant Dutch invasion in the Battles of La Naval de Manila in 1646.

The theme of this year’s celebration is “Journeying with Mary, Towards a Church of Communion, Participation, and Mission.” (Photos by Joe Torres, Angie de Silva, and Mark Saludes for LiCAS News)

Support Our Mission

We work tirelessly each day to tell the stories of those living on the fringe of society in Asia and how the Church in all its forms - be it lay, religious or priests - carries out its mission to support those in need, the neglected and the voiceless.
We need your help to continue our work each day. Make a difference and donate today.
