Police arrested ten people in connection with the vandalism of a Catholic church in Chhattisgarh state in Central India early this week.
Police tightened security in and around the Sacred Heart Church in the heart of Narayanpur district headquarters amid a day long shutdown in the Bastar region on January 5
Leaders of the pro-Hindu Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) were among those remanded in judicial custody.
Police superintendent Sadanand Kumar told media that police provided round the clock protection to the church and other Catholic institutions in the compound.
Police have also intensified searches for other people behind the attack on the church based on CCTV footage and mobile phone recordings.
