Shantou Cathedral in southern China commemorated the 14th episcopal anniversary of Bishop Huang Bingzhang with a public outreach event that included a voluntary blood drive and the distribution of free refreshments to outdoor workers and passersby.
The initiative was organized in partnership with the Tian’ai Charity Foundation and aimed to provide tangible support to those in need, especially amid the region’s sweltering summer heat, according to the Guangdong Catholic Church.
Seventeen individuals took part in the blood donation campaign, contributing a total of 4,200 milliliters. Bishop Huang, a longtime supporter of the initiative, was among the donors, continuing a personal commitment to voluntary blood donation that began in 2000.
Alongside the blood drive, volunteers distributed cold tea and bread to pedestrians and laborers, offering what the Church described as “a moment of comfort” during peak temperatures.
According to the organizers, the activity underscores the local Church’s broader mission of translating faith into concrete acts of compassion and service to the wider community.
