Salesian initiative seeks to rebuild values through nationwide student outreach in India

A Salesian-led values campaign reached nearly 30,000 students across India as organizers sought to counter rising violence, corruption, dishonesty, intolerance, and selfishness in society.

The campaign, known as the DAAD Revolution, was carried out by Don Bosco Animation and Research Kendra (DB ARK) in Palam, New Delhi, according to a report by Agenzia iNfo Salesiana

Organizers said the initiative directly engaged 29,602 students through programs conducted in Punjab, Rajasthan, and Jharkhand.

The final phase of the campaign took place in Ranchi, Jharkhand, in April and May, reaching 13,771 students from 42 schools and educational institutions. Combined with activities held in Punjab and Rajasthan in March, the program expanded its reach to students across several regions of the country.

According to organizers, the DAAD Revolution was launched in response to growing concerns about the erosion of human and moral values. The initiative aims to address the rise of violence, corruption, dishonesty, intolerance, and selfishness by encouraging young people to become agents of positive social change.

The acronym DAAD stands for “Do An ARK a Day,” while ARK means “An Act of Random Kindness.”

Grounded in the values of love for God and love for others, the campaign encourages students to perform at least one act of kindness each day and make compassion a regular part of their lives.

Through interactive sessions, participants reflected on values such as kindness, forgiveness, justice, equality, inclusion, and social responsibility.

Organizers said the long-term vision of the initiative is to mobilize millions of young people across India and promote a culture in which “authentic human and spiritual values guide personal and social behavior.”

They also emphasized that one of the movement’s central messages is that kindness transcends barriers of caste, religion, language, and social status.

The campaign continues to expand through a growing network of facilitators and advocates. Organizers said the movement seeks to foster mutual respect and solidarity across social divisions and contribute to building stronger and more harmonious communities.
