Catholic Church in India calls for immediate use of new ritual for religious profession

A new edition of the Order of Religious Profession was officially released Tuesday during a solemn ceremony at the Apostolic Nunciature in New Delhi.

Archbishop Leopoldo Girelli, Apostolic Nuncio to India and Nepal, presented the first copy of the newly approved ritual to Cardinal Filipe Neri Ferrão, President of the Conference of Catholic Bishops of India (CCBI) and Archbishop of Goa and Daman.

The new ritual “reflects the renewed theological and spiritual depth of consecrated life in the light of Vatican II Council,” according to the press note from the CCBI General Secretariat.

It is intended to offer “a liturgically rich and solemn presentation of the Rite of Religious Profession, honouring the Church’s esteem for religious life and consecrated communities.”

The CCBI is urging all dioceses and religious congregations to implement the new ritual with immediate effect.
