The Catholic Bishops’ Conference of India convened dozens of religious leaders in the Indian capital, promoting interreligious unity as a response to escalating global conflicts.
The initiative, held under the banner of “Shanthi Sabha – A Multifaith Assembly for Peace,” comes “in the backdrop of several ongoing conflicts and wars across the world,” the bishops said.
About 35 leaders from Christian, Hindu, Muslim, Buddhist, Jain, Baha’i and Zoroastrian communities gathered April 14 at the CBCI Centre in New Delhi to pray for peace and harmony, according to organizers.
Participants offered prayers using their respective “Faith formulas and slokas.”
The program opened with a welcome by Archbishop Anil Joseph Couto, CBCI secretary general, followed by the lighting of a traditional lamp and a peace bhajan. A Shanti meditation session was led by Brahma Kumari Husain Bandi Imam.
Attendees later recited the common prayer, “Lord, make me an instrument of Peace,” while holding lighted candles.
The assembly also approved a proposal to pass a resolution on global peace.
Organizers said the event reflects the Church’s ongoing commitment to “fostering interreligious harmony and promoting collective spiritual efforts toward global peace.”
