Pastor in India receives death threats from radicals in latest attack on Christians

Across India, attacks on Christians and their places of worship continue to be reported in greater number

A Christian pastor and his family received death threats from Hindu radicals in the wake of the reported growing incidents of attacks on Christians in the country.

An International Christian Concern report said a certain Pastor Dhiraj and his wife, Ravita, were told by a mob of Hindu radicals to leave the church in the Gaya District of India’s Bihar state or the couple would be killed.

“On July 27, men confronted Pastor Dhiraj and his wife, Ravita, at their church in Fatehpur,” read the report, adding that the men returned in the succeeding days to repeat the threat.

On July 29, a mob of about 25 to 30 people attempted to break into the pastor’s house and climbed on top of the church and parsonage building threatening Ravita with sticks and guns.

Pastor Dhiraj and other church leaders filed a complaint before the police but no action has been taken, said the ICC report.

Across India, attacks on Christians and their places of worship continue to be reported in greater number.

Earlier last month, Hindu radicals also attacked Christians churches in Uttar Pradesh, accusing the latter of forced conversions.

On July 22, a mob of Hindu radicals accompanied by 20 policemen stormed a prayer meeting where 35 Christians had gathered and told the congregation to stop the prayers.

“The large number of policemen came as if we are criminals, they threatened all the Christians gathered and said that we are involved in illegal conversions,” said one churchgoer in an ICC report.

At least 10 people were taken to the police station where they were detained for hours.

On July 27, a similar incident occurred when a group of Hindus assaulted two pastors at a prayer gathering.
